Open Letter from Mayor James on Proposed State Road 7 Plans and Grassy Waters Preserve

Post Date:02/18/2020 9:29 AM

Dear resident:

On February 20, 2020, the Governing Board of the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (PBTPA) will consider adding the extension of State Road 7 back into its long-range transportation plan. The extension is being considered for between Okeechobee and Northlake Blvds.--  adjacent to Grassy Waters Preserve of West Palm Beach, a 23-square mile pristine remnant of the Everglades, home to endangered species, and source of the City’s drinking water supply. If approved, the road will pose a threat to both our water and our environment.

West Palm Beach’s water and environment are precious. They must always be protected!

Residents may attend the PBTPA meeting to voice their concerns or make comments during the “public comment” part of the meeting. Your input is important to our collective health, safety and overall quality of life in the city.

All of us have a stake in protecting our environment, our water and our city.

Of note, the PBTPA may also give future consideration to the extensions of Jog and Roebuck Roads.
