Take Your Child to Work Day, April 25, 2024
About 60 children, kindergarten through eighth grade, were invited by Mayor Keith A. James to learn the inner workings of their parent's professions at the annual City of West Palm Beach observance of the national Take Your Child to Work Day, Thursday, April 25, 2024. The event gives children a greater understanding of what their parents do when heading out each morning to provide valuable services to the City's residents. Along with learning about the City and it's facilities, each child also spent a few hours side-by-side with their parent at their desk, or in the field.
In learning about the City, the children
- Explored the Mandel Public Library, floor-by-floor, and obtained library cards.
- Learned how the City communicates with residents and tells stories through WPB-TV18, the City's cable television station.
- Learned Internet and computer safety - and why it matters.
- Looked inside a City firetruck and saw what firefighters take on calls.
- Met Officer Marshall, the City's youngest canine officer at just under two years old, and
- Learned about the City's most powerful room, the City Commission Chambers.

Share-a-Supper, Tuesday, November 21, 2023
Thanksgiving is a time to come together and share with family, friends and neighbors. Annually, Mayor Keith A. James, City Commissioners and Department Directors join together to host Share-a-Supper with City residents who may go without the annual celebration. COVID-19 sidelined the event for several years, but it made a welcome return in 2022, and continued this year. Here are a few of the happy faces from this year's event.

Open House at West Palm Beach Fire Station 8
Children and adults flocked to see West Palm Beach's newest and most modern fire station, Station 8, at 10965 Northlake Boulevard, just west of Grassy Waters Preserve. The open house celebrated the full staffing of the western-most fire station, protecting our western residents and businesses.
During the four-hour event, the West Palm Beach Fire team hoisted children into the massive units, displayed the gear and answered all questions. Children and parents learned about the equipment and the skills needed for firefighters to perform their duties, and about saving lives and property.
Shop With a Cop
The West Palm Beach community and the FUND for West Palm Beach Police gave more than 300 children and families a reason to smile this holiday season with the annual Shop With a Cop. Children and several families jammed the aisle of Walmart on 45th Street as WPB Police, volunteers and Santa, stepped up to ensure struggling families and children have a reason to smile. Police provided gift cards based on family needs and accompanied children selecting clothes and toys for their siblings and parents. Esperanza Holiday Toy Drive
West Palm Beach Police know you just can't put a price on a child's smile. For about 250 children at the Esperanza Community Center it was nothing but smiles on Saturday, December 17 at the annual Esperanza Holiday Toy Distribution. Children in the Community Center's Outreach Program were able to select a toy and meet a "reindeer (a.k.a WPB Police K-9 Loki)." With the assistance of West Palm Beach Police, the toys for the children were donated and collected at drop-off boxes placed at many area businesses and in residential communities throughout the City. The goal of the program is to ensure all children get at least one present during the holiday season. Visit the West Palm Beach Police Community Service page to learn more.
Hurricane Ian Relief
West Palm Beach employees volunteered to help our neighbors in Southwest Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Volunteer staff members from the West Palm Beach Police Department, West Palm Beach Fire Department, Public Works and Utilities didn't hesitate in stepping up to assist fellow Floridians. Mayor Keith A. James presented special awards to the all the volunteers for their never-ending drive to help those facing adversity. Only a handful of volunteers were able to attend the ceremony.
