NOTICE OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION |
The City of West Palm Beach held a General Municipal Election on Tuesday, March 19, 2024,
for the purpose of electing one City Commission seat: District 5. Candidates for City Commission seats for Districts 1 and 3 were unopposed.
CANDIDATE QUALIYFING INFORMATION |
During the qualifying period, candidates are required to file their qualification papers and pay the state assessment fee of $350.00. The assessment fee is 1% of the annual salary for the position, City Commissioner. The assessment fee must be a check drawn from the campaign account. Candidates were required to pay the election filing fee of $1,750.00. The election filing fee is 5% of the annual salary for the position. The election filing fee must be a check drawn from the campaign account.
All persons seeking election as a City Commissioner shall be a qualified elector of the City and shall be a resident of the district from which he or she is to be elected. A candidate for the office of City Commissioner shall have continuously resided during the six-month period immediately prior to the date of election in the respective district from which the candidate seeks to qualify for election. The City Commissioners are elected at-large on a nonpartisan basis by a citywide vote.
Prior to any municipal election, candidates may contact the City Clerk's Office to schedule an appointment for a packet briefing, or to turn in qualifying paperwork during the qualifying period. Pursuant to the City of West Palm Beach Code of Ordinances, Section 30-1, the Qualifying Period is "no earlier than noon on the first Tuesday in November, nor later than noon on the third Tuesday in November of the calendar year prior to the year in which the election is to be held." New Candidates should plan for at least 1 hour to meet with the City Clerk to go over the Packet and required forms.
