WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (August 13, 2020) – As part of its continued efforts encouraging residents to respond to the 2020 Census, West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James has declared August 17-21, 2020 as the 2020 Census Week of Action in the City. This initiative is one of many actions undertaken by the City to encourage residents to respond to the 2020 Census. Residents, neighbors, and business owners in the City are invited and encouraged to participate in these events:
Monday, August 17, 2020 (5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) | 2020 Census Town Hall
Learn about the Census and get your questions answered in this virtual, 2020 Census Town Hall, hosted by West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. Panelists include: Alex Hansen, City of West Palm Beach 2020 Census Project Manager; Linda Odum, Interim Director of the West Palm Beach Housing Authority; and Maria Antuña, CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 |Civics Day
Members of the City’s Census Planning Team will visit Election Day polling locations to remind residents about the importance of taking the census. Census materials will be provided, and on-site, online responses will be accepted by a team member.
Wednesday, August 19, 2020, 8am-5pm | Business “Response-a-thon”
Local businesses are encouraged to inform their employees about the 2020 Census and to partake in a “response-a-thon.” The response-a-thon aims to capture as many responses as possible, so that our community receives adequate funding for critical programs and resources. If able, local businesses are encouraged to allow employees to take 10 minutes to respond to the Census OR share important information about the Census with employees. Messaging and information about how to respond will be provided by the City of West Palm Beach. Census results can greatly impact the business community.
Thursday, August 20, 2020 | Neighborhoods and Universities Count!
Universities located within the City of West Palm Beach are encouraged to inform students about what the 2020 Census is, where they should be counted and how their submissions can be collected. Neighborhood associations are also encouraged to contact residents for last minute self-responses.
Friday, August 21, 2020, 4pm| Census ‘Cruise’
Mayor Keith A. James and members of the West Palm Beach Police and Fire Departments will visit Coleman Park, Pleasant City, and the historic Northwest neighborhoods to raise awareness of the importance of a complete and accurate Census count.
The 2020 Census helps the U.S. Census Bureau determine how to allocate more than $675 billion in federal funds. These dollars are used for general City maintenance and improvement, food and affordable housing programs, schools, healthcare resources and other aspects of daily living.
