STATEMENT TO LOCAL MEDIA RE: COVID-19 & SUMMER CAMP

Post Date:07/10/2020 2:03 PM

The City continues to take steps to protect campers, staff and the community and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The City is operating its summer camp program in compliance with all CDC guidelines and local orders. We are also keeping parents, staff, and the general public informed as concerns arise.

Recently we notified parents, guardians and employees that an employee associated with the Coleman Park summer camp program received a positive test for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the City disinfected the facility’s camper areas and kept children outside of those areas until the disinfection was complete.

The parents and guardians of Coleman Park campers were informed of these developments and that their children should be monitored for symptoms. Ongoing precautionary measures undertaken at all City camp facilities include: mandatory temperature checks for campers and city employees, social distancing, mandatory mask-wearing, and handwashing. Additionally, children are separated into small groups of nine or less to help limit interaction.

Under HIPPA rules, we do not comment on an employee’s condition or their medical care. As a general matter, if an employee were to test positive for COVID-19, that person would be required to observe their medical provider’s quarantine or other orders. Employees are then notified that they should self-monitor for symptoms. City employees with symptoms of COVID-19 are permitted to return to work only after they have been cleared by a medical provider.

The health and wellness of children in our care and, also, of our employees is of utmost importance.
