WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (January 24, 2020) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has agreed to install a guardrail west of I-95 between Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and 45th Street to help prevent vehicles that may leave the interstate from continuing onto Village Blvd. FDOT has agreed to also install added safety measures including additional lighting and pavement markings on I-95.
In August 2019, the City petitioned FDOT to install safety measures following several serious instances of vehicles leaving a southbound lane of I-95 and crashing into northbound vehicles on Village Blvd. To determine whether a guardrail and additional light and pavement markings were appropriate, FDOT reviewed the crash history and cited four crashes in four years.
FDOT estimates the installation of the guardrail will be completed by Summer 2020. The additional lighting and pavement markings on I-95 should be installed by the Spring of 2023. The safety project is located within Commission District 2.
