WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (May 19, 2020) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has shared with the City an anticipated schedule for the installation of a guardrail west of I-95 between Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and 45th Street to help prevent vehicles that may leave the interstate from continuing onto Village Blvd. Additionally, FDOT has agreed to install added safety measures including lighting and pavement markings on I-95. FDOT estimates the installation of the guardrail will be completed by August 2020. The additional lighting and pavement markings on I-95 should be installed by the spring of 2023.
In August 2019, the City petitioned FDOT to install safety measures following several serious instances of vehicles leaving a southbound lane of I-95 and crashing into northbound vehicles on Village Blvd. To determine whether a guardrail and additional lighting and pavement markings were appropriate, FDOT reviewed the crash history and cited four crashes in four years.
The safety project is located within Commission District 2. To contact the City of West Palm Beach, please dial (561) 822-1200 (TTY 800 955-8771). For information about the City of West Palm Beach, please visit: https://www.wpb.org/.
