Free Tutoring and Homework Help Offered to Students Grades K-12 at Mandel Public Library’s Homework Center

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (September 27, 2021) – Have a child in need of homework help or tutoring?  The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach, located at 411 Clematis Street, is providing free assistance to students in grades K-12 from certified teachers in all subject areas, including Math, Science, English and more. Students also receive healthy snacks during their visit.

“The Mandel Public Library’s tutoring and homework help program is always one of our top programs,” said Lisa Hathaway, Mandel Public library director. “We are fortunate to have incredible Palm Beach County School District teachers available to provide local students with free assistance on everything from homework and longer-term projects to test preparation and encouragement with their studies. As a working mom, I recognize the value and comfort the Homework Center provides so many in our community. We are grateful to the Library Foundation for funding such an important program.”

Homework Center hours of operation and teachers are as follows:   

Elementary Homework Help for All Subjects, Grades K – 5

Mondays and Wednesdays: 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  

Thursdays: 4:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.  

Sundays: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The teachers are:

  • Courtney Rippe teaches ESE K-5 at Freedom Shores Elementary School. She earned a master’s degree in Special Education from Grand Canyon University and a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University. She is in her 14th year as a School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) teacher.
  • Stacey Rowe teaches Small Group Reading at Northshore Elementary School and has additional experience teaching K, 1, 2 and 3 in all subject areas. She earned a master’s degree in Reading K-12 from Florida Atlantic University and a bachelor’s degree in Education from Florida Gulf Coast University. She is in her 15th year as a teacher with SDPBC.
  • Ruth Brown is a reading coach at Galaxy Elementary. She earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership at the American College of Education and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Florida Atlantic University. Ruth is a recipient of the Florida High Impact Teacher award and has been a teacher with SDPBC for 11 years.
  • Eric Gonzalez is a 3rd grade teacher at S.D. Spady Elementary. He earned a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Georgia and an Educational Specialist Degree from Barry University. A former award-winning journalist, he has been a SDPBC teacher for 14 years.

Teen Homework Center for grades 6 -12

Mondays - Wednesdays: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (Math)

Tuesdays - Thursdays: 5:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. (Reading)

The teachers are:

  • Ricardo Henry is an 8th grade Language Arts Teachers at Roosevelt Middle School. He earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Barry University and a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Legal Studies from Bethune-Cookman University. Ricardo recently completed the Aspiring Leadership Academy to become a school administrator and has been a SDPBC teacher for 15 years.
  • John Bowers is a grades 9-12 Math, Engineering and Technology teacher at Suncoast High School. He earned a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Florida Atlantic University and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University. He is the 2016 Dwyer Award Winner and a National Conference Presenter – Robotics Olympiad.

No registration is required. However, attendance is limited. The program is sponsored by the West Palm Beach Library Foundation.
