West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (June 11, 2024) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, June 10, 2024.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Mayor Keith A. James proclaimed June 2024 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the City of West Palm Beach.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved an ordinance after second public hearing for a text amendment change to the Zoning and Land Development Regulations to allow the sales of Golf Carts in the Transition Sub-District of the Northwood Mixed Use District (NMUD)

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Approved a resolution authorizing the issuance of an Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) for the lease and/or purchase and development of five City-owned properties on the Broadway Corridor; approved a resolution approving the Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) for Program Years 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027.

PARKS and RECREATION – Approved a resolution authorizing the provision of Child Care Services at Pleasant City and South Olive Community Centers; approving a State of Florida Statewide Readiness Provider Contract and a Children’s Services Provider Contract to provide funding of the services; approved a resolution approving a Special Event License Agreement with National Pan-Hellenic of Palm Beach County, Inc., for the Annual Greek Picnic. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Lincoln Park and authorizing the issuance of a permit for the sale, possession, and consumption of alcoholic beverages at the event.

POLICE DEPARTMENT – Approved a resolution amending the Fiscal Year 2024 Miscellaneous Trust Fund Budget to authorize appropriations of $76,998 from the State Law Enforcement Forfeiture Receipts for law enforcement equipment.

PUBLIC WORKS – Approved a resolution authorizing the use of General Fund and Fire Assessment Fee Fund discretionary fund balance to provide appropriations for consulting services for the restoration of Evergreen Cemetery and for Fuel Tank replacements at the Operations & Maintenance Complex, Police Station, and Fire Station 2.

Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting on Monday, June 10, 2024.

Approved a resolution approving an agreement for lease, purchase and sale of property located at 314 Clematis Street to a joint venture of Brand Atlantic, LLC, and Blue Water Advisors, LLC. The developers will lease the property for five years and, if agreed upon improvements are completed, developers may purchase the property for $7.6 million.

Approved a resolution authorizing a grant to 2025 North Dixie Highway, LLC, pursuant to the Relocation/Development Assistance Incentive Program, for an amount not to exceed $100,000 for construction upgrades. The company plans to construct a health club and Padel tennis facility on the property.  

Held a discussion regarding the use of Open Space for an ice rink at the Ben Hotel. The ice rink and adjacent concession stand would be open from November 1, 2024, through March 1, 2025. The operator would offer discounted tickets to West Palm Beach City residents and group discounts for schools and non-profits.

Held a discussion regarding the Sunset Lounge. After a lengthy discussion, the CRA Board agreed to revisit the issue.
