Mission: Enhance the viability of West Palm Beach as a model of a healthy, equitable, environmentally progressive, resilient, and ecologically sustainable community.

The City of West Palm Beach has been committed to sustainability targeting climate change for over a decade. We were one of the first cities in the State of Florida to have a dedicated office addressing climate change, sustainability and resiliency issues. The Office of Sustainability collaborates with various city agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses and private citizens, among other partners, to enhance the viability of the municipality as a model of healthy, equitable, environmentally progressive, resilient and ecologically sustainable, urban living.  We are committed to continue to evolve to meet our City’s / region’s environmental challenges focused on exceeding our community’s expectations.

  • Introduction: Join us via Zoom or Facebook Live
Introducing Climate Conscious Chats with the City of West Palm Beach Office of Sustainability and University of Florida’s Thompson Earth Systems Institute! Our changing climate brings much uncertainty surrounding our food supply and what it might look like in the future. Join us for our fall virtual Climate Conscious Chats series to learn from scientists about how climate change will affect food waste, food production and food livestock and what we can do to ensure sustainability into the future.

Don't miss this FREE event on Zoom or Facebook Live as Ratna Suthar, Postharvest Scientist and PhD Student at University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, addresses the global food waste dilemma.

Stay tuned to the end of the program for your chance to win prizes from the Office of Sustainability!

About our speaker:
Ratna was born and raised in New Jersey. She was studying chemistry as an undergrad at the University of South Florida where she got involved in research on food quality and shelf life of food. They studied things like how Vitamin C levels change in strawberries as they go through supply chain conditions from harvest to market. It was fascinating that one could quantify quality – a subjective measure of consumer acceptability. She applied to the graduate program at UF Agricultural and Biological Engineering where she did a masters and now finishing her PhD on modeling sustainability of fresh produce chains.
