 West Palm Beach, FL (June 3, 2020)— On Sunday, May 31, 2020, the West Palm Beach Police Department facilitated a protest throughout the City for approximately 3000 demonstrators. The demonstration, which began at approximately 1:00 p.m.  with a small number of protestors, swelled to 3000. At approximately 7:30 p.m. a group of approximately 60 people began to destroy property, jumped on traveling vehicles of motorists attempting to navigate through roadways, and throwing rocks and bottles at officers. As this group of agitators grew violent, to protect lives, a request was made to Mayor James to instill a 9:00 p.m. curfew.  Eventually, officers were forced to defend themselves deploying the following non-lethal force:

  • Direct impact foam sponge balls (commonly referred to as rubber bullets)
  • Six smoke cannisters
  • One CS Gas (eye irritant)
  • Five arrests were made
  • No injuries were reported,
