WEST PALM BEACH, FL (February 6, 2024) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, February 5, 2024.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Mayor Keith A. James proclaimed the week of February 11-17, 2024, as 2-1-1 Awareness Week and presented the proclamation to Sharon L’Herrou, president and CEO of 2-1-1 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast.

Mayor James proclaimed the month of February 2024 as Black History Month and presented a proclamation and 2024 Heritage Honoree Award to State Senator Bobby Powell.

Approved two resolutions approving an amendment to the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) work plan as part of an interlocal agreement between the City, Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and DDA, and a second resolution authorizing the appropriation or transfer or City funds for the stop-gap trolley project and for other purposes.

CITY COMMISSION – Each member of the City Commission honored a Black resident of the City as a 2024 Heritage Honoree and a proclamation.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved an ordinance after a first public hearing approving a City-initiated change to the Future Land User designation of about 17.35 acres south of Pine Street to the north, 14th Street to the south, North Flagler Drive to the east and North Dixie Highway to the west , from Multifamily (MF) and Commercial ( C ) to Mixed Use (MU) for the purpose of expanding the Currie Mixed Use District; approved an ordinance after first public hearing to rezone about 10.11 acres south of Pine Street to the north, 14th Street to the south, North Flagler Drive to the east and North Dixie Highway to the west from Professional Office Residential (POR) and General Commercial (GC) to Currie Mixed Use District-Core I subdistrict and Currie Mixed Use District- Transition subdistrict; approved an ordinance after first public hearing for a City-initiated request for a text amendment to the Zoning and Land Development Regulations to expand the boundaries of the Currie Mixed Use District (CMUD) and provide for additional height bonus incentives within the district; approved an ordinance after second public hearing to change the zoning for 18 parcels along north and south of Alpha Street from Multifamily Low Density Residential (MF14) to Multifamily High Density Residential (MF32); approved two ordinances after first public hearings to amend the Future Land Use Map for about 6.51 acres at 8111 South Dixie Highway from Multifamily (MF) to Commercial East (CE) and a second ordinance t change the zoning for the about 6.51 acres from Residential Planned Development (RPD) to General Commercial  (GC); approved an ordinance after first public hearing to change the Zoning designation of about 3.74 acres at 1551 Forum Place from Office Commercial (OC) to Multifamily High Density (MF32).  

ENGINEERING – Approved a resolution authorizing the execution of an amendment to the Interlocal Funding Agreement between Palm Beach County and the City for construction of certain City utility improvements on Australian Avenue and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Approved two resolutions, one conveying the property at 1400 Henrietta Avenue to the West Palm Beach Housing Authority for construction of affordable rental housing development, and a second resolution approving a pre-development grant agreement and funding to the Housing Authority in the sum not to excel $250,000 for the construction of affordable housing at 1400 Henrietta Avenue.

PARKING ADMINISTRATION – Approved a resolution amending the General Fund budget to recognize a parking meter donation of $9,793.51 for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Day, January 15, 2024, and appropriating the funds for a donation to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Caregivers.

PARKS and RECREATION – Approved a resolution amending the Capital Acquisition Fund budget to re-appropriate $166,000 from the Parks Maintenance Complex Parking Lot project to the Lincoln Park Basketball Courts renovations.

PUBLIC UTILITIES – Approved a resolution approving an Interlocal Agreement between the East Coast Regional Wastewater Treatment Facilities Operations Board, Palm Beach County, and the City for enhancements to the Florida Power and Light (FPL) Reclaimed Water Facility.

Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting on Monday, February 5, 2024.

Approved two resolutions amending the interlocal agreement between the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), the City of West Palm Beach and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and approving the appropriations for transfer to the General Fund per the interlocal agreement between the CRA, City and DDA for services for the Trolley System and Downtown Exterior Maintenance for fiscal years 2020-2024 that would coordinate:

  • Trolley Services,
  • Homelessness Services,
  • Street Cleaning Services,
  • Landscaping Services,
  • Pressure Washing, and
  • Sanitation.
