West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (09-22-2022) – Below is a summary of some of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, September 19, 2022.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Presented a proclamation to the Board of Directors of the Latin Quarter of West Palm Beach.

Approved resolution opposing and discouraging conversion therapy upon minors; in a separate action, approved, on first reading, the repeal of Ordinance 4666-16, repealing Chapter 54, Article V, to be consistent with the court’s preliminary ruling; approved a resolution updating a bicycle-sharing agreement with Micromobility Management LLC.

CITY ATTORNEY – Approved a resolution assessing liens for unpaid water, sewer and stormwater charges; approved a resolution for a conditional settlement with Susan Russo for $50,000 for an accident that occurred on December 23, 2020; approved a resolution for a court-ordered mediation settlement with Sharagay Espsito for $220,000; approved an ordinance on second reading establishing new noise standards and enforcement; approved on second reading an ordinance adding an additional $25,000 homestead exemption for persons 65 and older with household income under a certain level (less than $32,561 for FY ’23).  

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Postponed a resolution to amend the comprehensive fee schedule for sidewalk café permits; approved an ordinance on second reading for the voluntary annexation of 1.57 acres for expansion of the boundaries of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.

ENGINEERING – Approved a resolution authorizing a revocable permit and license with Urban Youth Impact, Inc., to expand the fenced in area at 2823 North Australian Avenue; approved a resolution to submit a U.S. Department of Transportation pilot grant program application to fund pedestrian bridge planning.

FIRE – Approved a resolution reauthorizing the City’s participation in the Medicaid Management Supplement Payment Program for EMS transport services; approved a resolution accepting a U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for $754,500 for protective equipment, a wellness program, additional personnel and overtime costs; approved a resolution accepting a Florida Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Equipment Grant for $26,800 to purchase one SCBA washer.

HUMAN RESOURCES – Approved a resolution setting the City’s salary plan for FY 2022-2023.

LIBRARY – Approved a resolution to seek a Florida State Aid to Libraries Grant for about $92,000 to support a multitude of library services and programs.

PARKS & RECREATION – Approved a resolution approving a three-year agreement with Friends of Veterans, Inc., for the annual Veterans’ Day Parades, set for November 6, 2022, November 5, 2023 and November 10, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Clematis Street; approved a resolution accepting a Florida Office of Early Learning ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) Child Care Provider Stabilization Subgrant for $106,575 for programs at Gaines Park Community Center and South Olive Park Community Center.
