West Palm Beach City Commission Meetings Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (08-23-2022) – Below is a summary of some of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, August 22, 2022.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Honored and paid tribute to longtime resident and city leader Robert Sanders, Esq. Mr. Sanders served the City’s residents and businesses for 40 years in a variety of roles: city manager, city attorney, director of economic development, and board chairman of the Downtown Development Authority. as the Deputy City Attorney overseeing and managing multiple economic development projects. Former Mayors Nancy Graham and U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel were among those at the ceremony.

Approved appointments of Nicholas Mihelich to a three-year term on the Downtown Action Committee; Samantha R. Bratter to a three-year term on the Downtown Development Authority; Andrea Peppers and Leo Perry to three-year terms on the Library Board; and Lon Sabella to a two-year term on the Watersheds Advisory Committee.

CITY ATTORNEY – Approved releasing code enforcement liens on property owned by the Community Redevelopment Agency.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved an ordinance to correct numbering and formatting errors within the Community Residence and Currie Mixed-Use District; approved an amendment to the threshold requirements between major and minor amendment for Developments of Significant impacts and Planned Developments; approved an amendment to the Downtown Master Plan to modify the language regarding incentives for designating historic landmark sites and open space standards; approved a resolution for a Demand Management Agreement between EAHG West Palm Beach, LLC and the City for the 695 South Olive Avenue Hotel;  approved the rezoning  of the Reflections Center Planned Development from Commercial Planned Development to Downtown master Plan’s Clear Lake – 25 subdistrict.

FINANCE – Adopted a resolution adopting the Chronic Nuisance Assessment fees; adopted a resolution approving and setting the Fire Assessment Fee for fiscal year 2023.  

FIRE – Approved staffing reclassifications moving three firefighter positions to three operations captain positions.

POLICE – Approved a grant agreement with the University of North Florida Training and Services Institute (Institute of Police Technology and Management) for reimbursement of costs incurred during public education and enforcement of bicycle safety and pedestrian safety programs.

UTILITIES – Approved submittal of grant applications to the Resilient Florida Grant Program to fund flooding and sea level rise analysis programs and to install Southwest Outfall Tidal Valve in the area of South Lakeside Court, Ninth Street, Monceaux Road, Sunset Road, Monroe Drive and Edmor Road and for additional funding to continue the Flagler Drive underground hardening project.
