WEST PALM BEACH, FL (October 19, 2021) – The City of West Palm Beach’s Cyanotoxin Expert Panel (“Panel”) held its sixth Technical Work Session on October 12. The Panel discussed initial observations from recent Clear Lake water quality sampling and depth-profiling performed as part of the city’s near-term actions. The ongoing source water study is part of the Panel’s data-driven approach to better understand how factors such as lake levels and water age may be influencing water quality and to identify potential operational strategies to improve source water quality.

“The Panel’s national expertise is helping identify source-to-tap strategies to achieve the best quality drinking water for the community, including looking at ways to manage our complex source water system to help ensure the best water quality enters the treatment plant,” said Dr. Poonam Kalkat, Director of Public Utilities.

Over the next four months, the Panel will continue evaluating potential source water management strategies and treatment technologies that may be suitable for the city. Visit the city’s ‘Protecting Water Quality—Source to Tap’ webpage on the city website, wpb.org, to find information about the city’s drinking water and the Panel’s work.

The city continues to monitor with no detections of cyanotoxins in the treated drinking water.
