WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (June 15, 2021) – The City of West Palm Beach is gearing up for the return of 4th on Flagler, its annual Independence Day celebration. In 2020, the City of West Palm Beach Community Events Division adjusted the regularly scheduled event to a virtual format due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the event will occur on Sunday, July 4 from 7 – 10 p.m. along the West Palm Beach waterfront (Flagler Drive between Banyan Boulevard and Fern Street). 4th on Flagler will feature refreshments for purchase, roving entertainment, the inaugural Bill Bone 5k, a patriotic salute, and its usual dynamic firework show.
Entertainment will include stilt walkers, jugglers, caricatures, an artistic chalk drawing by The Chalk Guys, and Supercar Week’s “Drive-in 4th,” a car show featuring various luxury vehicles. The Centennial Fountain will display “Salute our CommUNITY,” a light and music show, from 8 – 10 p.m., with a pause during the firework display (please note that the show’s usual interactive virtual salute will be disabled on Independence Day). Live music will be performed in two different locations from 7 – 10 p.m. Remix, a local Top 40 band, will perform on the NewDay USA Stage, while a DJ plays their own set near Post Park. City of West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James will deliver remarks from the Palm Stage at 8:45 p.m., which will be followed by the announcement of the 2021 Palm Beach Health Network’s Hometown Heroes and a patriotic presentation. The fireworks will ignite at 9:09 p.m. over the Intracoastal Waterway.
Individuals who prefer to start their celebration with a burst of energy are invited to register for the Bill Bone 5K. The family-friendly “run to the fun” event starts in Osprey Park (5026 N Flagler Dr.) at 6:30 p.m. and ends adjacent to the north end of the 4th on Flagler site. Any applicable COVID-19 restrictions will be in effect for each activity.
“4th on Flagler is one of the city’s fan-favorite signature events,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “I am so pleased that this event will return this year. We invite our residents and business owners to join us for the fun this Independence Day. We hope to see you there!”
“We have been looking forward to this event for more than a year,” said Mary Pinak, community events manager for the City of West Palm Beach Department of Parks and Recreation. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to bring our community back together again. While we have adjustments in place, all of the major elements will be present to ensure a memorable experience.”
Various viewing options will be available for fans of the firework show, either in-person or virtually. WPBF 25 which will broadcast the fireworks live as part of a special show, “WPBF 25: 4TH ON FLAGLER LIVE FIREWORKS.” The show can be viewed on Comcast channels 10 and 431, on Direct TV/Dish Network/AT&T U-Verse channel 25, and over the air on channel 25-1 at 9 p.m. The broadcast will also be streamed live on www.wpbf.com and in the WPBF 25 News App. As is tradition, the music for the fireworks will be simulcast live on Hubbard South Florida stations 97.9 WRMF, SUNNY 107.9, X 102.3, New Country 103.1, PARTY 96.3, Fox Sports 640 South Florida, and News Talk 850 WFTL.
4th on Flagler is returning as part of the City of West Palm Beach’s “Here Comes the Fun… It’s All Right!” summer campaign, which includes 19 FREE events such as outdoor concerts, fountain shows, and movie nights under the stars.
