WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (March 11, 2020)– It’s a “reel-y” big celebration, and that’s no fish tale! The historic West Palm Beach Fishing Club is hosting an open house event March 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 201 Fifth St (at the corner of Fifth St. and Flagler Drive) in West Palm Beach. The open house continues celebrations of the City of West Palm Beach’s 125th anniversary by local community partners.
During the free event, guests can catch a glimpse of the city’s past and enjoy a tour of the historic club, one of the oldest fishing clubs in America. On-site volunteers will share the Fishing Club’s unique historical role in the city and in the development of the sport fishing industry.
City leaders founded the organization in 1934 as a civic anecdote to the Great Depression, helping to fuel the region’s economic recovery through sport fishing tourism.
“We are thrilled to see our community partners helping us celebrate this milestone year,” said Keith James, Mayor of West Palm Beach. “Free events like this are spreading the word about our wonderful city and its rich history. Our city has come a long way since its start in 1894, and there is so much for all of us to celebrate.”
Events and activities of the 125th Anniversary include a comprehensive exhibit at the Historical Society of Palm Beach County, lectures at the Mandel Public Library, historical walking tours and much more! Some of the celebrations are a part of the City’s heritage events, such as Clematis by Night, and community leaders have rallied their support as well.
