Richard Gathright, City of West Palm Beach Assistant Building Official, Receives Building Official of the Year Award

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (January 12, 2021) -- As evidence of the City of West Palm Beach’s commitment to delivering exceptional customer service that enhances quality of life, City of West Palm Beach Assistant Building Official Richard Gathright was named Building Official of the Year by the Building Officials Association of Palm Beach County (BOAPBC) at its December meeting.

Gathright, who works in the City of West Palm Beach Development Services Department, received this recognition for his contributions to the City of West Palm Beach and the development community. He was also praised for the mentorship that he provided to many building code officials during more than 30 years of building regulation work for both the City of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County.

 Gathright has been an employee of the city since March 2017. Prior, he worked at the Palm Beach County Building Department for over 30 years. During that time, he held the position of Deputy Building Official, among others. He also serves on the Application Review Committee of the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

 BOAPBC is a Florida not-for-profit corporation comprised of building officials, inspectors, plans examiners, architects, engineers, contractors, industry members and others mutually interested in the promotion and enhancement of public safety, through diligent and consistent enforcement of applicable construction codes and regulations throughout Palm Beach County, Florida. BOAPBC has been the local Chapter of the Building Officials Association of Florida since 1974 and the local Chapter of the International Code Congress since 2001.
