WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (January 7, 2020) — The City of West Palm Beach, the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and several other agencies hosted the official groundbreaking for Flagler Station, the City’s latest affordable/workforce housing offering. This mixed-use housing development will be located at the gateway to the City’s Downtown and Historic Northwest sectors. The project design activates the public realm, incorporates a pedestrian-oriented design and references the historical architectural vernacular of the area.

Flagler Station’s included linear park will pay homage to the vast railroad network referenced in its name through an outdoor public art display. An included “micro-mobility” station will provide a storage area for bicycles, scooters and other methods of alternative transportation. This feature is in line with the City’s mobility plan to make West Palm Beach a more “commuter friendly” city and will also support residents’ transportation to and from work.

Housing Trust Group is the project developer, and Rinaldi Construction is the contractor. The City’s Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) provided a low interest loan in the amount of $75,000 towards the project as well as other development incentives.  Palm Beach County contributed an additional $550,000 in HOME Investment Partnership Program funds.

“Flagler Station is an example of the great work that can be achieved when both the public and private sectors work together for the good of our community,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. “Providing affordable living options to our growing West Palm Beach population continues to be a top priority, and we look forward to launching this new community.”

In line with Mayor Keith A. James ‘300 in 3’ initiative to build or complete 300 workforce/affordable housing units in three years, Flagler Station advanced the initiative, with 75% of the ‘300 in 3’ goal now met in one year.

The project is expected to reach completion by 2022. To learn more about the City’s HCD and what options are available to qualifying residents, please visit www.wpb.org/hcd or call (561) 822-1250 (TTY: 800-955-8771).
